Chapter Fifteen of The Embedded Market: Exit, Voice and the Art of Holding a Market Well.

Abstract

An afternoon's work for a leader, an hour's for a household. Use a single sheet of paper, landscape, with five columns. Reading the sheet. Lines with a recent voice, a named channel and no exits are working embeddings; leave them alone and thank the people in them. Lines marked exit only among your most important relationships are where you are learning about trouble last. Repeat the audit in ninety days, and compare the second column. The measure of progress is not fewer complaints. It is more lines where someone told you something in time. A tool for a leader of a team of any size, or for a household. It measures what it costs, in practice, for someone to tell you something is wrong. Allow one hour to set it up and ten minutes a month to keep it.
