Chapter One of Where the Flow Stops: Finding the Gain an Organisation Already Holds.

Abstract

A decision is made twice, once at the table and once in the lift, and the second is usually the true one. It is twenty past eleven on a Thursday, and the quarterly review on the fourth floor has just ended. Nine people approved the date. The new warehouse system goes live on the first of March, and there were nods all the way round the table, and the chief executive thanked everyone for the candour of the discussion. The operations director is standing at the lift with a paper cup of coffee that went cold during the second agenda item. The window at the end of the lobby has the flat grey light of a February morning. The doors open, and the head of logistics steps in beside her, and as soon as the doors close he says, without looking at her, It won't be March.
