Chapter Three of Where the Flow Stops: Finding the Gain an Organisation Already Holds.

Abstract

The newest person in the room often holds the question that matters, and keeps it in a notebook until someone senior goes first. It is a quarter past nine on a Monday, and the planning meeting is on the third slide. The analyst is in her fourth month. She has a notebook open on the table and a pen in her hand, and in the margin of the page she has written one line, underlined twice: churn = last year's? The forecast on the screen assumes that the rate at which customers leave will be what it was last year. Last year was before the price change. She has been looking at the cancellation data for a week, because it was her first real task, and the rate since the change looks different to her. She is not sure. She is new, and the people around the table built the model.
