Chapter Twelve of Mindful Leadership Mastery: Somatic Presence, Field Attunement and Internal Coherence — The Definitive Edition.

Abstract

Mindfulness has conquered the corporate world. Fortune 500 companies offer meditation rooms. Tech giants provide mindfulness training. Airlines sell meditation in their in-flight entertainment. There are more mindfulness apps than there are flavors of protein powder, and the global mindfulness market is valued in the billions. And yet — something essential has been lost in the translation from contemplative practice to corporate product. The mindfulness that has been packaged for executive consumption is, by and large, a stress reduction technique . It has been extracted from the contemplative traditions that developed it over thousands of years, stripped of its deeper purposes and developmental context, and repackaged as a productivity tool. "Meditate for ten minutes a day and you'll be more focused, less stressed, and better at making decisions." This is not wrong. Mindfulness does reduce stress, increase focus, and improve decision-making.
